Springfield, Battle Creek’s finest suburb, encompasses a total area of 3.81 square miles; we have 35.9 miles of streets and a population of 5,189 according to the 2000 Census. Located in the northwest corner of Calhoun County, the city borders Battle Creek to the west and is approximately 120 miles west of Detroit, 150 miles east of Chicago, and only 20 miles east of Kalamazoo. We are at the intersection of M-96 & M-37. Springfield is constantly growing and currently prides itself with an estimated population of 150,000.

Our natural features include the Kalamazoo River, which cuts through the extreme northeast corner of the city, and a number of small creeks that drain toward the Kalamazoo River. There are a number of natural springs located in Springfield, and one small lake, augmented by a dam, is located in the City. The natural beauty of the area adds to Springfield’s appeal.

With over 250 small businesses, Springfield is proud of our diverse economy.
